Social Studies

The Social Studies Department at the HART High School prepares students to serve as citizens of the world. Beginning with an overview of Ancient History, students explore the foundations of human civilization and democracy. Students develop a deep understanding and respect for all cultures and the ways in which they manifest themselves globally. With a focus on cultural diffusion and global interconnectedness, in their Sophomore year, students explore the rise of Nationalism, Revolutions, Colonization and Imperialism, and more modern conflicts such as WWII. Global history ends with a focus on the world in which we live today; students seek solutions for modern problems like climate change and the spread of nuclear weapons. Students have the opportunity to take two college-credit bearing courses, AP United States History and AP United States Government and Politics.
